Industries served by Orion Packaging Systems:
Beverage
From empty PET bottles needing only a light covering of stretch film for dust protection, to pallet loads of cased wine bottles needing positive unitization, Orion machines are hard at work in hundreds of beverage facilities around the nation. One of the reasons that Orion equipment has become the machinery of choice in the beverage industry is the fact that Orion is ready, willing and able to custom configure our systems to the unique requirements of the customer. Not only can customers choose from dozens of options, Orion can custom design a stretch wrapping system with non-standard options to be sure that the machine will perform exactly as required. Orion''s rotary tower machines are ideal for the beverage industry in that full loads of beverage product, which can often be unstable, can be wrapped without rotating, the film carriage revolves around the load. Orion automatics feature "soft" start and stop circuitry also a desired feature when conveying unstable beverage loads.
Food & Drug
Food and drug represents one of Orion''s largest market segments, and for good reason. This is an industry where downtime is not an option. High efficiency production lines end at the stretch wrapping machine so if it breaks down, the entire line is on pause, which in the case of many food and drug products, can cause time consuming and expensive delays.
Customers in the food, drug and pharmaceutical industries can depend on Orion Packaging to provide them with full range of rugged, reliable and highly efficient turntable and rotary tower wrapping systems all designed to maximize stretch film while providing the very best load unitization.
Printing / Graphic Arts
The printing and graphic arts industry presents some unique packaging challenges. Often, printed matter is stacked on pallets and is quite slippery and unstable, thus it must be secured to the pallet, usually with steel or plastic strapping which can be costly and may loosen during settling of the load. Strapping can also damage the uppermost layer of product when tightened. In addition, the printing must be kept clean and dry on the sides and the top. Orion''s approach is to run the load through a large orbital ring wrapper first which wraps the top, bottom and two sides. The load is then wrapped on either an orbital or turntable wrapper further protecting the four sides of the load. The end result is a load which is firmly secured to the pallet, protected from dirt and moisture on all six sides, and costs much less than alternative unitizing methods.
Block & Concrete
Few environments are as harsh on packaging equipment as concrete and block plants. Dust, dirt, grit, gravel, sand, moisture, extremely heavy loads and temperature extremes are very common and can cause problems for packaging machinery, unless it''s made by Orion. Every Orion model is built to withstand these elements, and more. Extensive use of heavy gauge structural steel with no skimping on weldment length, helps assure a frame that will withstand abuse. Controllers are safe behind NEMA12 enclosures, motors, gearboxes and other drive components are chosen for their ability to survive in tough conditions, and their local availability in case they should need replacement.
General Warehouse
Warehouse and distribution facilities typically operate at full throttle and demand ease of use and reliability from a stretch wrapper. Orion delivers in spades with a full line of equipment to choose from, including Orion''s new ''hybrid automatic machines which combine the lower price points of semi-automatic machines with the increased speed and efficiency of an fully automatic system. These hybrid machines allow fork lift personnel to place the unwrapped load in the wrapping area and start the cycle with just a pull on a hanging lanyard. Because there is no need to get off the vehicle at the beginning and end of the cycle, productivity and efficiency is dramatically increased.
Appliance
For years there was one way to prepare major appliances for shipment: large, expensive corrugated cartons with strapping. However, the trend today is shifting toward the highly economical advantages of stretch film combined with corner protectors and top and bottom trays. This method of wrapping has not only reduced destination damage, it has significantly reduced the overall packaging cost per load to the level that the Orion equipment usually pays for itself in less than one year.
Window & Door
For years, manufacturers of windows and doors have been searching for a more cost effective alternative to strapping, corrugated and shrink film packaging.
Orion recognized this need and developed a line of stretch wrapping machinery specifically designed to meet the needs of this industry. These machines are generally one-of-a-kind custom engineered machines which are built to the exact requirments of the customer. They offer simple operation, durable construction and excellent value. High performance powered prestretch film delivery systems use precision electronics and specially engineered urathane rollers to elongate stretch film by up to 300% making the film very strong and resiliant. Thanks to the tremendous economy and performance of stretch packaging, our customers often see machine pay back periods of months, not years.
